Engineered Hardwood in Corpus Christi, TX
Engineered Hardwood Flooring
Engineered wood is similar to natural wood in the sense that it is, of course, still wood. However, instead of just making flooring out of cut down timber, engineered hardwood is made a little differently. Engineered wood flooring is made by laminating 3 to 7 wood boards together. That is then pressed together with a layer of hardwood.
This engineering and pressing of the wood makes engineered hardwood flooring more stable in humidity as well as more suited to a number of different installation techniques, including: nailing down, gluing down and floating. The major advantage is that because of their ability to withstand humidity, engineered floors can be installed in kitchens and basements, rooms that natural hardwood will not perform well in.
There are many benefits to the features of engineered wood. For one, engineered wood will not expand and contract like solid wood because of its cross-directional and laminated construction. These floors are also non-allergenic which makes them a healthy flooring choice. Engineered wood’s multi-layer, or multi-ply, construction increases its dimensional stability and strength. Lastly, engineered hardwood costs less than solid wood. Because of the hardwood layer on top, though, engineered floors are still available in a wide variety of species. This means you can purchase engineered hardwood at a lower cost without losing on style!
